Abdominoplasty, commonly called tummy tuck, is known as an operation yielding good results in male and female patients suffering from excess skin and sagging of the abdominal area. The procedure aims to correct all frontal abdominal deformations starting from under the breasts; and irregular body contour of the abdominal area. In cases where excess skin is concentrated below the navel line, abdominoplasty is only done in this part of the abdomen. Excess skin of the lower abdomen and contour irregularities can be treated with this surgery called mini abdominoplasty or mini tummy tuck.
This operation technique is appropriate for patients who have no sagging skin above the navel line. In addition, occasionally some patients seek medical help for the treatment of excess fat accumulation in lower abdominal area. In these cases, liposuction surgery to be performed may cause sagging of the skin in this area. This condition can be foreseen before the operation and a mini abdominoplasty surgery can be suggested. If necessary, liposuction of the upper abdomen can be done during the same operation.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 1 – 1.5 hours. A drain is generally used, it will be taken out the next day. The scars will be smaller than a traditional tummy tuck. The special corset that will be put on after the surgery is suggested to be worn for at least 3 weeks.
The post-operative period is usually quite comfortable. The patient can return to work 3-4 days later. It will take up to a year for the scars to fade.
This operation offers considerably good results when performed on suitable patients.
